Byzantine Time Machine’s latest EP, “Reflections of Lyra” embodies our motto of infusing ancient musical traditions into the dynamic world of electronic music, in this case, house music, a genre native to our home town.
You'll hear our signature Turkish clarinet, Greek dulcimer, and Middle Eastern percussion woven seamlessly into a tapestry of lush synths, ethereal textures, and infectious grooves, reflecting a sound that connects our modern lives to the ancient days, when Orpheus played his "Lyra"
BAND BIO
Byzantine Time Machine was founded in 2013 by married couple Eve and George Lawler. Veterans of Chicago’s diverse world music scene, they have played music from Greece, Turkish, the Balkans, the Middle East, and beyond, as well as having played music of ancient Byzantium with the city’s early music ensemble “The Newberry Consort.”
All these influences find their way into the group’s unique music, and this new EP expresses the height of their creativity with a unique juxtaposition between ancient traditions, and modern sounds.
